There has been much controversy over the events that took place at last weeks Video Music Awards on MTV. The excitement was not over any of the winners, but rather the behavior the VMA host, Russel Brand.
If you are not aware of what happened at the VMA’s, then your kids probably do. Russel Brand, who is a British standup comic and radio/TV host, came to the United States to host the awards and made some very controversial comments. First, he made a blunt political endorsement for Barrack Obama. He urged Americans to vote for Barack Obama and called George W. Bush a “retarded cowboy” who, in the U.K., wouldn’t be trusted with a pair of scissors.
Now these comments alone are very offensive. What right does he have to come over from England and to tell us how to vote, or what gives him the right to mock our president? He really should have stuck to talking about music videos and left politics alone.
It gets worse from there. Brand repeatedly ridiculed the Jonas Brothers’ virginity pledges and made fun of them for wearing their purity rings. How can this guy come over here and mock the Christian faith of the Jonas Brothers’ who choose to walk the walk and are actually a good role model for their fans. He then went on to make fun of Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palins daughter, Bristol Palin and her fianc? about the teens pregnancy.
It really is disgusting that this guy comes over here to our award show and mocks our president, tells us who to vote for, makes fun of a teenaged pregnant girl, and ridicules the decision that the Christian Jonas Brothers’ have made to save themselves until marriage. People should be commended for displaying their faith by displaying their faith by wearing things like Christian jewelry and Christian T-Shirts.
Thankfully one person spoke up and that was American Idol 6 winner, Jordin Sparks. She went on to commend the Jonas Brothers’ and spoke out in favor of purity rings.
